Jubal came home July 12th, 2026 which means we've had him for a little over 7 weeks now. He has settled into home life really well! He is learning house manners and I am quite impressed with how smart he is. At just 9 weeks old he learned how to sit, lay down, and roll over. Now he can give his paw, speak, and stay. Recently we've been working on increasing distance for stays, as well as going from sit to down while I'm several paces away. He sits very patiently for his meals and waits while we say grace. He loves playing fetch and he's getting better and better at it (although at some point he usually decides he's done with the formal game and plays keep away instead). Crate training was really easy, surprisingly, and he loves to "go to his house" especially because he knows there's always a freeze dried beef heart treat waiting for him when he goes inside and sits nicely. His cat friend, my Chewy, also likes crate time because it means I'll toss him a treat too. Jubal still needs to learn to be calm with the cats. He wants to play with them as if they're dogs and they do not appreciate that. Chewy is curious about him and will come up to him but Jubal ends that interaction pretty quickly with some unwanted licks to the face. Jubal loves car rides and I try to bring him out with me as often as possible, which ends up being at least 5 days out of every week. He is a mostly polite passenger! His favorite part of the day is when he gets to ride with me to pick his dad up from the bus stop! He starts puppy kindergarten on September 12th which is a 6 week program. They offer AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy evaluations at the end of the course which is what we are shooting for! He gets his final parvo shot on September 18th and after that the world is our oyster! I am very much looking forward to going on long walks together and getting out to meet other dogs and dog people! Jubal is a very good boy.
